In Whiteman Park on Perth's northern edge, Caversham holds one of the largest private collections of native animals in the state, and is built around getting close to them. Visitors can walk among a mob of kangaroos and hand-feed them, meet wombats and koalas up close, and watch a working-farm show of sheep-shearing and whip-cracking. Wombats, Tasmanian devils, penguins and a broad range of native birds fill the shaded grounds. Family-run and firmly hands-on, it is Perth's favourite place to introduce children to the animals of the bush.
