On the granite country between Mareeba and Kuranda, Davies Creek runs off the tableland through a series of clear pools and small cascades below the tall Davies Creek Falls. Smooth pink-granite slabs slope into the water, ideal for sunning between swims, and the surrounding open forest is dry and full of birds, a change from the rainforest closer to the coast. A shaded campground sits beside the creek. It is an easy, uncrowded spot for a cool swim in the Atherton Tablelands, reached on a short unsealed road off the Kennedy Highway.
