Windsor chairs have been made the same way for 300 years: steam-bent arches, hand-carved seats, spindle backs and legs turned to take the weight of a body. W. Burke works this tradition from Ewingsdale, near Byron Bay, and runs occasional multi-day classes — a five-day fanback side chair, a three-day perch stool — for anyone who wants to understand the making firsthand.
