Whiteman Park

PERTH, WHITEMAN, WESTERN AUSTRALIA

One of the largest remaining tracts of Swan Coastal Plain banksia bushland survives here on Perth's north-eastern edge, beside the Swan Valley. The state-run park pairs conservation with an unhurried, old-fashioned day out: nature trails through country where kangaroos, goannas and wedge-tailed eagles turn up, alongside volunteer-operated vintage trams, trains and buses, transport museums, playgrounds and more than thirty picnic shelters for hire. Wildflowers move through the bush across much of the year, and a village core of cafés and gift shops anchors the middle of it.
