The founding site of St Mary MacKillop, Australia's first saint, in the Coonawarra town of Penola. It was here in 1866 that MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods started their first school and the Sisters of St Joseph, and the centre keeps the original Woods MacKillop schoolhouse alongside an interpretive museum, the upgraded Mary MacKillop Gallery, a church and memorial parks. Run by the Sisters of St Joseph, it was a 2025 finalist in the South Australian Tourism Awards.
