Given the tablelands' elevation, with some towns approaching a thousand metres, the climate runs cooler than much of the state, colder still in winter. Outdoor sites such as waterfalls and gorges suit milder months for comfortable walking, while the concentration of breweries, distilleries and museums offers indoor interest year-round, including cooler weekends when cellar doors and heritage centres keep regular hours.
